Abderrahman El Yessa is supervising KAICIID's country programmes in the four focus regions; Central African Republic, Iraq and Syria, Myanmar, and Nigeria. Abderrahman was formerly the Head of the Governance and Social development unit in the UN Development Programme’s Programme of Assistance to the Palestinian people, coordinating a portfolio that included community resilience, rule of law, social cohesion, local governance and public administration among others. He has accumulated a significant amount of experience in the field of governance, crisis prevention, peacebuilding, and program management in Palestine, Tunisia, Mauritania, and Togo, with assignments in other countries, such as Niger and Libya. Abderrahman worked extensively on the support provided by the UN/UNDP to the reforms initiated in Tunisia after the ‘Arab Spring’ in the area of democratic Governance constitutional and electoral processes, transitional justice, in the security sector, anti-corruption and civil society support. In 2007 and from 2009 to 2011, he was Peace & Development Advisor of the UN Country Team in Togo for several electoral and peacebuilding programmes. From 2004 to 2009, Abderrahman worked in Mauritania, mainly on the support provided by the United Nations to the political transitions in the country that included electoral process, anti-corruption, civil society, women's empowerment and political participation. Before joining the UN system, he worked for the Mauritanian Ministry of Economic Affairs as Human Rights and Civil Society expert, and co-founded a local NGO working on poverty alleviation and inclusive finance in marginalized areas. In parallel, he taught public law at the Nouakchott University and was a human rights activist in the early 1990s. He has received a PhD in public law from Orleans University and holds a Master in Public Administration from the National School of Administration, France.
