FAITH4SDGs: Water is Life: Protecting our Most Sacred Resource (Goal 6)
FAITH4SDGs: Water is Life: Protecting our Most Sacred Resource (Goal 6)
United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 6 aims to ensure access to water and sanitation for all.
As part of KAICIID's Faith4SDGs digital storytelling project, we will screen a short film highlighting the work of Khalsa Aid, an international faith-based organization that provides humanitarian aid in disaster areas and civil conflict zones around the world. The organization is based upon the Sikh principle of "Recognise the whole human race as one".
In 2015, devastating floods in the Phalombe district of Malawi uprooted 230,000 people, according to UNICEF reports. The district still lacks access to clean, running water due to damaged infrastructure. Khalsa Aid has partnered with local government actors to install clean water sources, ensuring that everyone has access to the world's most sacred resource.
According to the UN, 2.2 billion people lack access to safe drinking water and 4.2 billion people lack safely managed sanitation services. The impact on child mortality rates is devastating with more than 297,000 children under five who die annually from diarrhoeal diseases due to poor sanitation, poor hygiene, or unsafe drinking water.
Today more than ever, access to water, sanitation and hygiene services is fundamental to fighting the virus and preserving the health and well-being of millions. COVID-19 will not be stopped without access to safe water for vulnerable communities. Join guest panellists from Khalsa Aid and Global Interfaith Wash Alliance (GIWA) to discuss the role of faith-based organizations in improving water and sanitation management, while ensuring equitable access to safe and affordable drinking water.
You are encouraged to submit questions and topics you would like our guests speakers to explore!
