In collaboration with the Interfaith Dialogue Forum for Peace (IDFP), the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) and the Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR), with support from KAICIID, Nigeria’s interfaith community has developed the Interfaith Code of Conduct (ICoC). The Code is a practical, values-based resource designed to guide Muslim and Christian religious leaders, faith communities and other public actors in promoting mutual respect, responsible communication, peaceful conflict resolution and social cohesion. Grounded in shared principles drawn from Biblical and Qur’anic teachings, the ICoC sets out ten core values, including human dignity, protection of the sacred, prevention of hate speech, justice, integrity, accountability, compassion and respect for lawful authority. It is intended to support religious leaders in their preaching, public statements, media engagement, community dialogue and daily interactions, helping ensure that faith remains a force for peace, coexistence and nation-building in Nigeria.
