The KAICIID Board of Directors - consisting of representatives of five religions - Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Islam and Judaism - issued today this statement following the attacks that occurred in London at London Bridge and Borough Market on 3 June 2017:

“We join in prayer and express our condolences for the innocent people who were deliberately murdered and injured by killers claiming religious motivation for their heinous crimes. These terrorists’ acts are intolerable for all religions. All religions reject violence.

The victims and injured were enjoying the company of friends and family in a city that is home to citizens of diverse national origins, cultures and religions. That social cohesion is a precious common good. That treasure cannot be destroyed by terrorists if peace-loving people persist in dialogue with people of other cultures and religions to resist the terrorists’ attempts to spread fear, and sow hatred.”

The International Dialogue Centre (KAICIID) is an intergovernmental organization mandated to promote dialogue among different religious and cultural groups to promote justice, peace and reconciliation and to counteract the abuse of religion to justify violence. The Centre is governed by a multi-religious Board of Directors, consisting of representatives of five religions - Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Islam, and Judaism.
