On 7 April 2017, KAICIID Secretary General Faisal Bin Muaammar met Cardinal Jean-Louis Tauran, the President of the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue, at the Council's offices in the Vatican. Their cordial reunion focused on the Centre's past, current and future collaboration with the Holy See, the Founding Observer.

The Secretary General informed Cardinal Tauran of the activities now undertaken by the Centre, including the programmes to support interreligious dialogue platforms in four conflict regions: the Central African Republic, Iraq/Syria, Myanmar and Nigeria, as well as other programmatic activity related to the United against Violence in the Name of Religion initiative, such as the Social Media as a Space for Dialogue programme and the KAICIID International Fellows Programme. The latter programmes train young religious leaders to counter hate in social media, as well as to support the education of future religious leaders in the use of dialogue to prevent conflict and to support peaceful reconciliation.

The Secretary General expressed his gratitude for the Vatican's long-standing and unwavering support, in particular for the support provided by Pope-Emeritus Benedict, Pope Francis, Bishop Gallagher, and Bishop Miguel Ayuso.

In the course of the discussion, the Cardinal and the Secretary General discussed the Centre's continuing collaboration with the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue and welcomed further consultations.

Following his meeting with Cardinal Tauran, the Secretary General also met Bishop Ayuso, a member of the Centre’s Board of Directors and the Vatican’s representative on the Council of Parties to develop further plans for collaboration between the Centre and the Pontifical Council.
