Father Laurent Basanese, a member of the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits), specializes in Arab Christian Theology and Islamic Studies, particularly the thought of Elias of Nisibis and Ibn Taymiyya. He founded the Gregorian Centre for Interreligious Studies (2015) at the Pontifical Gregorian University and directed the Series Interreligious and Intercultural Investigations until 2021. In 2020 and 2021, he was a Consultor of the Commission for Religious Relations with Muslims at the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue. He is one of the expert referents in Rome for the University Platform for Research on Islam (PLURIEL) and a member of the Coordinating and Scientific Committee of this network. As Professor as well as Official of the Dicastery for Interreligious Dialogue, he has taken part in numerous congresses and meetings on dialogue and peace in Europe and throughout the world.
