Sheikh Thaer holds a certificate of religious studies in the field of Islamic law from the holy city of Najaf and is a teacher at AlHawza, Iraq. He is also a member of the Al-balaghe Centre at Dar Al Ulum Imam Khoi. He works in building peace and peaceful coexistence between components and religions and on conflict resolution and national reconciliation, especially in Iraq.

He frequently organizes activities in the field of human rights, women's rights, freedom of religion and minorities.

His motto is: “People classify either as your brother in religion or your counterpart in creation.”
