The Prime Minister of Spain, Mariano Rajoy, and the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, HRH Mohamed Bin Salman, renewed their countries’ commitment to interreligious dialogue and pledged to increase their cooperation in this area through the activities of the International Dialogue Centre (KAICIID), during a meeting on 12 April 2018 at the Moncloa Palace, in Madrid.

The Crown Prince and Prime Minister Rajoy highlighted the International Dialogue Centre (KAICIID) as a forum to promote peace through dialogue, according to media reports.

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Kingdom of Spain are founding members of KAICIID, together with the Republic of Austria, and the Holy See as the Founding Observer. These states comprise the highest governing body of the Centre, the Council of Parties.

In February 2018, the Secretary General of KAICIID, Faisal Bin Muaammar met with the Foreign Minister of Spain, Mr. Alfonso Dastis, in Madrid.

The partnership between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Kingdom of Spain in the promotion of interreligious dialogue began with the Madrid World Conference on Dialogue in 2008. This important conference  led to the inclusion of interreligious dialogue on the International agenda, which since then remains  an abiding priority for both nations, as well as the other members of the Council of Parties.
